Messages 2017

Dr. Margaret W. L. Choi

Chairman (2017/18)

Po Leung Kuk

Po Leung Kuk is greatly honored to be the charity partner of the Ball. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to HKRU Community Foundation and all committee members for putting together resources from all walks of life to realize the potential of children from the underprivileged families through various rugby and education programmes in Hong Kong.

Apart from the regular rugby training programmes, Tackling Life and Tackling English programmes, provided to more than 5,000 students of our affiliated schools currently, we highly appreciate the initiatives and effort made by HKRU for bringing the kids abroad to participate in different international tournaments and summer training camps. These are all precious experiences which have strengthened their self-confidence through interaction with new friends from overseas, and broadened their horizons at the same time. What’s more, the Inclusive Rugby Programme gives youngsters from our special educational needs schools the opportunity to experience an organized team sport activity. It is our blessing to have HKRU, our much valued charity partners and friends who are joining hand in hand with us to make a difference in the deprived children’s lives.

I can’t wait to enjoy the concert performed by Foreigner tonight. Here with all of our treasurable partners and friends, I am sure I know “what love is”.

Pieter Schats

Chairman

Hong Kong Rugby Union

The Hong Kong Rugby Union is delighted to be hosting the HKRU Charity Ball for the third year,  a glittering evening of entertainment and fun with all proceeds to benefit youngsters of the Po Leung Kuk, Hong Kong’s foremost educational charity. The Union’s Community Foundation and the PLK collaborate on several sport-for development initiatives such as “Tackling Life” and “Tackling English” which use rugby as a medium to help youngsters realize their potential, improve their communication and life skills, and grow in confidence. The HKRU Charity Ball is a key element of this partnership, and we are proud to be supporting PLK’s invaluable work in our society.

Welcome to the 2018 HKRU Charity Ball!

We’re delighted that you’ve joined us, as we continue our partnership with the Hong Kong Rugby Union (HKRU) Community Foundation, which is the official host of the 2018 Ball.

With the HKRU’s support, we are continuing our work with Po Leung Kuk to help some of Hong Kong’s most disadvantaged children. Through the Language Training Programme, for example, hundreds of children are developing the English and Putonghua skills they need to succeed in today’s competitive job market.

In cooperation with the HKRU, we are proud to offer the “Tackling Life” and “Tackling English” programmes, which help more than 5,000 children aged 8 to 12 develop their English abilities and learn about teamwork. We also support “Inclusive Rugby,” an initiative that gives kids with special educational needs a chance to experience the joy of team sports.

Tonight, we are honoured to present Foreigner. With 10 multi-platinum albums and 16 top 30 hits, this iconic band is responsible for some of rock’s most memorable anthems. We hope you enjoy Foreigner, and tonight’s gourmet dinner and premium wines.

Once again, thank you for supporting the HKRU Charity Ball and making it one of the highlights of Hong Kong’s social and philanthropic calendar.

Have a great time and please, give generously.
